Medico Legal Services
Colbun Psychology provides independent, expert medico-legal assessments and reports prepared by Cristian Pena, Senior and Chartered Clinical Psychologist (CPsychol, AFBPsS).
Cristian has over 20 years’ experience in the field of human rights and works as a consultant for organisations internationally. He has extensive experience supporting survivors of political violence and persecution before, during and after legal proceedings, and regularly prepares expert witness reports and amicus curiae submissions in cases concerning torture, impunity and political terror. Cristian has acted as an expert witness before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights on several occasions, including in cases relating to torture and reparation, the right to health, and reparation for victims of enforced disappearance.
At Colbun, we provide medico-legal reports in support of asylum applications and Court of Appeal proceedings, and assess individuals who have sustained psychological injury as a result of human rights abuses, persecution or other forms of trauma. Where relevant, assessments and reports are prepared in line with the Istanbul Protocol. All medico-legal work is carried out in accordance with relevant professional, ethical and legal standards. Formal instruction from a solicitor is required for all medico-legal assessments.
Once instruction has been received, we are usually able to offer an assessment appointment within four weeks. Assessments can be conducted online or in person at our central London office.
Reports are typically completed within 30 days of the assessment, provided that all necessary documentation and background material has been made available in a timely manner.
Fees and practical information
Fees vary depending on the nature and complexity of the instruction.
